Those Firefox extensions keep getting more interesting. I've been a huge advocate of the Social Media Press Release from Shift Communications for some time now, and this latest extension for the browser form PRX Builder helps writers, big time. Why, because it reverses the process of the SMPR, by allowing you to strip out the elements of the media release and only get to the parts you want. Meaning, avoid the fluff, or even the parts that you may want to skip for the story.
In this example, as soon as it the SMPR opens up in the browser, the PR Slice button turns green. Click on it and it opens a small window with the headline, and dateline, plus five small clickable tabs. If you want multimedia elements only, that tab will open up links to the video that could be from YouTube or on your server, a podcast, or flash presentation.
I've also been using Clipmarks, and it's a lot more valuable than I thought.
For instance, if I see this story on BBC. I want to print only a section of the story for my reference, or I want to send it as an email snippet to someone.
With Clipmarks, I highlight and copy only that part, and it opens a window, as you see here. I could then email it with a comment, print it, or post it to a blog
